Viking Embroidery Club
Level - All Levels

Curious about machine embroidery? Join us each month at embroidery club and see the possibilities.  Darlene is a Viking Certified Software Instructor and teaches at several Bay Area Viking Studios.  Each month we’ll do a project featuring new designs and techniques.  Bring your machine and we’ll go step by step together!  This class is free to those who purchased their embroidery machines at Singing Dog.

Computer Basics and the Internet
Learn how to navigate the Internet and your computer.  We'll explore your computer and show you how to download and organize your embroidery files.  A laptop computer is recommended but not required.

Embroidery Mini-Retreat (2-days)
In this mini-retreat we will take you from design to finished project on a Saturday and Sunday!  Learn to use your 3D Embroidery Professional software to develop, draw, and digitize a design and then sew the project out!  Embroidery machine, laptop computer with 3D Professional installed.

Computer Printing on Fabric
Ever wanted to create a memory quilt using your cherished photos and images? 
You may use ready-to-use fabric or create your own from scratch.  Bring your photo, CD, or digital camera memory.

Husqvarna Viking Sewing Machines
Whether your machine is new or you need a refresher course on your old reliable Viking, this class will help get you sewing or show you new techniques and accessories!  We'll go through the range of feet available and sewing techniques to go with them.

Husqvarna Viking Embroidery Machines
Embroidery machines can be a bit complicated sometimes, especially if you haven't used yours in a while, or have just been using it for basic sewing.  We'll cover machine operation fundamentals first and then go over loading and stitching out a design.  If you are ready to become acquainted or re-acquainted with your machine, this is the class for you!

A mini-seminar that will help you keep your sewing machine running in top shape. 

 

 


Machine Quilting
We are selling time on our new Viking Inspira Quilting Frame and MegaQuilter.  If you have a project to quilt and want to try out machine quilting, here's your chance!  The MegaQuilter and Inspira frame are very affordable and we will credit your quilt time towards your purchase!  The machine will accommodate up to a king-size quilt and assistance is provided by staff to help get you started.

Beginning Sewing &
Quilting Techniques  
Level - Beginner

We’ve added a new  twist to our beginning sewing and quilting classes. We’re taking the stress out of learning a new skill.  For $20  (when you purchase your project supplies at Singing Dog)  we’re offering unlimited lessons until you finish your project.  Ensuring your success is our priority.


For beginning quilters
/sewers or returning quilters and sewers that want to refresh their basic skills or learn new ones.  Learn to use a ruler and rotary cutter to create accurate strips & pieces and basic block construction. Then put those blocks together to create a wall hanging or small throw using sashing, borders and binding.  Mix or match your dates and times.  If you can’t make one date or time, simply pick another available one and we’ll do our best to accommodate you!  You’ll also be working alongside other quilters of all levels as they work on their projects on Thursday’s Sit & Sew.  Pick up techniques from others and have fun at the same time.

Level - All levels
We've got quite a group going on Thursdays at our classroom on Easy Street!  If you want to join our group, we provide a nice space for you to work on a project or just sew and chat!  Sewers and quilters at all levels of expertise are there to help and/or learn from.

Beginning Sewing
Level - Beginner-All Ages
Learn basic sewing techniques and pattern reading in garment construction.  Bring your favorite pajama (PJ) bottoms & we’ll show you how to pull a pattern off your beloved bottoms and modify into shorts or crop pants, or simply recreate the bottoms.  Never buy a pattern for simple garments again.  We’ll have several sizes of bottoms to try on from child to adult just in case you’re giving a gift or haven’t tried the new craze yet. Make PJ bottoms, crop pants or shorts.

Civil War and The Underground Railroad
The theme will be traditional pieced blocks from the 1800s and the Civil War.  We'll go over fabric and quilt dating and have antique sewing machine demonstrations.  Antique quilts will be shown and analyzed.

This dynamic group of fiber artists usually meets the second Sunday of the month in the afternoon.  Long time weavers, spinners, and fiber artists, the group decides the activity. Minimal Materials fee depending on acti\vity.

Our age limitation is 10 years and older. Discussion with instructor may allow for younger students. 


QUILT CAMP for KIDS
Make this simple fence rail quilt or a rag quilt both patterns are easy and quick.  Students will learn basic quilting techniques ie. strip piecing, 1/4” seams, basic rotary cutting, ruler measurements, quilt sandwich, machine quilting and binding.  At least that’s the plan.   This is a great pattern for kids to learn on.  Great for visiting grand kids. Minimum 3 students. Enrollment limited  Sewing machines mats, rulers and cutters provided at class.

(or Appliqué For Those That Hate It)

The teachers for this class have assured me this is the only way to appliqué especially if you have had problems doing points and curves. Both are long time fiber artists.  For those of us that appliqué  there’s always another technique or trick to learn.

Make your own innovative fabric and textures.

Rug Hooking for Beginners 
Rug Hooking has been popular on the East Coast for a number of years. Using old wool clothes and wool scraps cut into strips, pictures and area rugs are created.  No counting or special tools are required for this soothing activity that can be done in the car or RV.

Penny Rugs and Wall Hangings
Penny Rugs have long been popular on the East Coast and in the Mid-West.  These small wool and wool felt rugs were used in front of the fire and were a way to use up scraps of wool  suiting.  Penny Rugs make great placemats, rugs and the technique can be used to make great Christmas stockings.

Machine Quilting 101
Level - All Levels
Learn the ABC’s of machine quilting.  In the first, learn about threads, batting, needles, tools and patterns for marking quilt tops.  You’ll stitch in the ditch and learn to quilt with a walking foot.  Then learn about free motion quilting and create a practice sampler.

We’ve launched our new fabric dyer’s club and think it’s going to be a hit!  If you want to extend your creativity to another level, make your own fabric, and just have fun, join us once a month and learn basic fabric dyeing, batiks, and more!  There will be a nominal materials cost each meeting (dyes, fabric, resists, etc.).
